Year 10 EOTC Mt Kaukau Walk and Pool Summary

A full day trip starting at Trelissick Park walking along part of Wellington's Northern Walkway all the way to the top of Mount KauKau before walking down to Khandallah Park. If the time of the EOTC week allows, students will be able to have a swim at Khandallah Pool.

Along the way students will experience a part of Wellington that few people realise exists, helping them create a more holistic perception of the Wellington environment and geography.

Students are expected to bring a packed lunch on all of these days as there will be limited opportunity to purchase food.

Requirement for the Activity

If students do not have the necessary equipment, they will not be permitted to participate in this trip. Equipment required includes a packed lunch, backpack and spare clothes

If you have any trouble obtaining these things, please let us know on the return form and we will do our best to assist you. Students will be asked to follow the school rules on all trips.

On the day of the event, students must dress in mufti clothes. This includes appropriate walking or athletic shoes, a raincoat, sunscreen, and warm clothing.

Mt Kaukau Background

Mt Kaukau is a large hill in the northern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand near Johnsonville, Khandallah and Ngaio.

The summit is 445 metres above sea level and is the most visible high point in the Wellington landscape further accentuated by Wellington's main television transmitter mast, which stands 122m from the summit.

The city, harbour and the Remutaka and Tararua Ranges can be seen from the summit.
